Interesting. I've been working on a C++ neural network to understand how they work. Been stalled at doing the back propagation. Just haven't had time/energy to tackle it.

tonight it will be 22-11-22 22:11:22, a palindrome in date, time, and combined datetime.

Reading messages is different than reading documents, aka text.

Bottom posting is a relic of using TTYs.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

I watched and implemented a version of Push several years ago. Didn't get it completed but it was fun.

Hey, migrating Tweeters. Kinda rude to move into other people’s space and immediately start bitching about the amenities or lack thereof. Especially when those people seem to be awfully patient with us noobs. #TwitterMigration

I never 'sleep' on food.

Alex Palombo
@rmerriam Don't sleep on mac & cheese! It's delicious and absolutely has a spot at the table.

@radehi

The word engagement is slippery. I want engagement here on BigM but on my terms.

For instance, just because I like a cat picture doesn't mean I want a flood of them. Or even a trickle.

On the flip side, I do want exposure to new experiences. I will miss a couple of people on the old site who I stumbled on somehow.

My best guess is 10-20% of new people tossed at me by an algorithm would be interesting.

Mac & Cheese?? Weird. No casseroles or football. Otherwise, the list is fine.

@lucifargundam I'll taco you up on that.

I did get your pun. In fact having some for supper.

@lucifargundam Ah, it was a pun. Hams come in full or half butts.

A full or half-butt?

Is there going to be a fix for the Markup bugs? I ran into it posting some C++ a few days ago, and freemo acknowledged there was a problem. I even looked at the GIT repository but decided it was beyond me.

With all the talk about drag shows, I have a lighter story.

Sometime in the late 80s/early 90s, my late father was out with some guys at a bar with a drag show. Some of the guys got loaded, like trying to stomp out the lights on the dance floor loaded.

One guy left for the restroom, and Dad followed. The guy checked the sign for "Men's Room," and just as he reached for the door, a 6-foot drag performer stepped out in full regalia of tall hair, plumes, etc. The guy looked at the performer, looked at the sign, looked back to the performer, and again at the sign. By then, the performer had moved on.

Dad was roaring at that point.

Horses are a poor analogy.

Wagons and ships provide better designs. Early cars had tillers from ships and brake arms or pedals from wagons.

Shriram Krishnamurthi
@radehi @rmerriam But trying to design for that is a bit like giving early cars a stirrup and rein instead of pedals and steering-wheels, because t...

If you mean new developers, I don't think there is a best language. All have issues for newbies.

For experienced developers, it depends on their niche. Frontend would be either Javascript or Typescript. I've done JS but not TS. It's a fun language.

Backend, I'm not sure. I work with C++ so, for various reasons, I think it would be good. That's all I can suggest.

@shriramk @radehi

As I said, the techniques or concepts transfer across many languages. Iteration and branching, for instance. Once these are learned it is only necessary to find the equivalent in the new language since you already know how to use them. The same applies to libraries for a language, e.g., collections.

As for similarity, not entirely. Snobol has branching, but it is based on the results of a statement with the branch at the end of the line.
