@presbyterian@dftba.club The same reason for most of the USA work culture: sadism. Pure and simple sadism.

@futurebird Until Apple finds a way to force its users to be incompatible with everyone else again.

@Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @jaycee Also, if you look at some of our libertarian billionaires, consider how much they earn from government contracts/subsidies aided by lobbying (endemic corruption)

@jaycee @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social I guess it is where he got the haircut

@jaycee @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social Not being fair to rats are you? Rats are social and affectionate animals

Tories are filthy parasites.

Orwell should have had a Tory gnawing on faces. That would be a real nightmare.

@pope @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @jaycee I forgot prison slave labor. Good catch.

@Radical_EgoCom @rrb @jaycee the USA is some strange form of dirigism, not actual capitalism. It’s closer to the economic subsystem of fascism, that everyone always pretends didn’t exist.

Without the constant injections of huge amounts of money into the military industrial complex, prison systems, and research the entire system would collapse completely.

They briefly cut military spending in the 80s and STEM salaries crashed nationwide, because the whole system is propped up by artificially inflated Raytheon and Boeing salaries

Prior to WWII the crashes were way more frequent than the “10-15 years” that we have now, cause It was actual capitalism back then

He has his problems, but Chomsky has a good explanation of the whole thing in “understanding power” that’s well cited and pretty compelling, tracing how the entire world stopped being capitalist nearly 100 years ago.

It’s a huge part of why we have such a hard time combatting the system, the left is still acting like we’re fighting 1800s systems, we keep reading stuff aimed at that long dead system and trying to pull a battle plan from “theory” but it won’t work cause capitalism is long dead and we’re chasing its ghost around.

We’re in the age of propaganda and direct economic injection now, and it’s a different beast entirely.

@Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @jaycee Take

Sort by government expenditures as percent of GDP, USA is almost identical to Norway. More than Communist China.

We have more state control of economy than they do if you look at the numbers.

We are a capitalist country as much as we are a Christian nation. Only in right wing wet dreams

@jaycee @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social please don't blame us for the Tories. Cameron, Johnson, Truss, Sunak (sp?)

Where do you find those people?

Oh yeah, Eton

@jaycee @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social Medicare is worlds largest government funded healthcare system. Social security? How much of USA GDP is government sector? Did you forget DOD spending? Federal reserve regulates money supply. If you took away any of those you would have a total collapse within a month. USA is capitalist in the same way that China is communist. In name only.

We like to pretend.

@jaycee @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social Neither is the USA capitalist, really. It would all break right away, if they really made it capitalist.

@quadrivial @Clutha @Radical_EgoCom

The people on the Mayflower were not "escaping persecution". They were banned from persecuting people in England so they went somewhere else to carry on persecuting people.

When the political climate in England changed thanks to the Civil War many of them came back to England as persecution was ok again here.

@quadrivial @Clutha @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social The deep South makes more since if you remember the penal colonies

@quadrivial @Clutha @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social You can not have oppressors without victims. See, we both forgot native Americans.

@quadrivial @Clutha @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social You left out the criminals (Georgia) and the poor (indebted servitude) and the slaves. Not everyone had a choice.

Or not:

For some branches of Christianity, God already chose winners and losers. Winners are born wealthy and the poor are miserable, because he wants them to be. Nothing you do matters, or could matter. If your life sucks, you are a bad person and God hates you.

@kithrup @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social No. I think you just pointed out their essential belief system.
