@jessitron Haven’t read it, but that sounds like something a villain would say, all right. Imagining identity in the absence of relationship will lead you to some dark places. (This is a toot about Libertarianism. :)
@JuliusGoat I swallowed the prisoners to catch the fly.
Dude. You LITERALLY just surrendered. Know how I know? Bc you have a #mugshot. Also known as a #surrenderportrait.
Community college is now free for Mass. residents 25 and older. Millions qualify
So now the deadbird site, formerly known as Twitter, is inviting developers to come back and "build what's next" with the much abused API.
Twitter (and Reddit)'s greed-infused API restrictions wrecked a project we (ASU News Co/Lab) were doing to help journalists send corrections down the same social media pathways as the original journalism.
The idea what we'd ever work with them again is a sick joke.
Note to the #wapo: You can’t surrender defiantly. Surrendering means you’re complying, not defying. If #giuliani wanted credit for defiance, he could have holed up and refused to let them take him alive. You can’t waltz in to your own arraignment, waltz out again and say “look at me, I’m so defiant!”
Well you see, Tina, what a lot of people don’t understand is that the telekinesis has to be applied very precisely.

We don't talk much in this culture about how boys become the men we think so poorly of.
It's analogous to why we never ever talk about why the demand for drugs is so high, but only about how evil the suppliers are, and what we'll do to shut them down.
If we did, well, we'd have to take on some responsibility that most of us don't want.
of Trump supporters (who... *already support him no matter what*) is more important than the sensibilities of everyone who’s received less gentle treatment from the US justice system. Was the same before he went to Twitter jail, except this is much more important. JTMFA and watch how little difficulty it creates for the country. 2/2
“It is a win-win situation for him. If he is not gagged and jailed, he can disparage prosecutors and witnesses with impunity. If he is jailed, he can portray himself as a victim of persecution.”
Ok but... he’s already portraying himself as a victim of persecution. And he wouldn’t be any more right about that from jail than he is now. This attitude assumes the persuadability 1/2

Interesting article:
There are 2.2 million human beings confined in prison and jail cells in the United States tonight. About 500,000 of them are presumptively innocent and awaiting trial, the vast majority are confined by the government solely because they can't pay enough money to buy their release. This country has 5% of the world’s population, but 25% of the world’s prisoners—the highest rate of human caging of any society in recorded history of the modern world. At least another 4.5 million people are under government control through probation and parole “supervision.”
Between 80% and 90% of people charged with crimes are so poor that they can't afford a lawyer. Twenty-five years into America’s incarceration boom, black people were incarcerated at a rate 6 times that of South Africa during apartheid. The incarceration rate for black people in the nation’s capital, where I live, is 19 times that of white people.

@jessitron “Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly, now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.” (Shapiro 1995, glossing Talmud)

Occam’s razor says this is a case of red-state hostility to #education, and nothing I read here disproves that idea. Does anyone know different? #wvu

Horrifying.
University of Houston students brace for LGBTQ Resource Center closure in response to Texas’ DEI ban: The announcement confronted students with the impact of a new law that will require all state-funded colleges and universities to close their diversity, equity and inclusion offices.
