The first climate model that estimated how the world might warm in the future was published in 1970.

That model, as well as ones published in the 1970s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s, have done a remarkably good job predicting what actually occurred in the years after they were published

Twitter is now begging some employees who Musk laid off to come back.

Some were apparently laid off by “mistake,” others were let go before management realized that their experience was crucial to build the new features Musk envisions. bloomberg.com/news/articles/20 #tech #technology #news #media #journalist #elon #twittermi #twitterefugee

Risks of Reinfection

"In sum, in this study of 5,693,208 we provide evidence that reinfection contributes additional health risks beyond those incurred in the first infection including all-cause mortality, hospitalization, and sequelae in the pulmonary and broad array of extrapulmonary organ systems. The risks were evident in the acute and post-acute phase of reinfection."

Reminder if you are migrating from Twitter: put your Mastodon handle in your Twitter bio so tools like Debirdify can help you to find people and help them to find you!

We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties after firing half of our staff.

Please be patient, and consider using another social media platform if you have troubles connecting to #Twitter.

KEEP IN MIND! #Mastodon doesn't work like #Twitter!

Have you just made the #Twexit or the #TwitterMigration?

Favorites ⭐ - they're not "likes". They don't "elevate" posts, they just the poster know you liked their post.

Boosts 🔁 - these push someone's post into your friends feeds (and help discovery).

So if you ⭐ my posts, that's great (and I love you too)!

But if you 🔁 posts, then more people see them!

OH! - #Hashtags are how you search!

@saki A better solution might be Following some hashtags. (Added in Mastodon v4.0.0rc1, which your server hasn't updated to yet)

I can recommend the mobile web interface as that's mobile friendly and Qoto is a modified Mastodon server with many extra features that the app might not cover.

And when you check out the settings on this server, you'll see that there are many ways to follow things in the Follows and Subscriptions section. (This option is specific on Qoto, it doesn't exist on other servers).

I just spotted a 'Domain subscriptions' there, this might be what you're asking for?

Mastodon may not replace Twitter, but at least it has better leadership.

Meet Eugen, CEO of Mastodon Social:

Twitter is a moderation product, not an engineering product, and failing to understand that - and the legal, political and reputation risks entailed - makes it not just a bad purchase, but a disaster for Musk, argues Nilay Patel

Anyone had any luck connecting with Sengi and Hyperspace Desktop to this instance? Both fail but work with other instances

Hey, just a reminder: it's OK if this isn't an 1:1 replacement for Twitter. How would your digital social life look if you were the one curating it and not some algorithm? You don't need to follow the same people you did on Twitter. And you don't need to be a part of the same conversations. Like, sure, you can make this place a new Twitter, but you don't have to.
