Why I Hate Winter

* Black / clear ice on the streets and sidewalks
* Frigid air with high winds
* Increased frequency of colds and other diseases
* Having to generate lots of CO2 just to stay alive
* Dry skin and chapped lips unless I humidify which requires still more energy
* Washing three times as much laundry as in summer
* Near constant discomfort
* Doing anything requires more motivation than in summer
* Work on outdoor projects is on hold for months
* The dog can't enjoy sunning herself on the back porch

Kids and teens enjoy winter because their world is in an unusual state so it's interesting and fun. Bundling up and braving the slippery walk only to find your car covered with clear ice and the doors frozen shut is fun and amusing to a child. It's not amusing to an adult.

@hasmis Hahaha. Here in West Virginia, we stopped getting enough snow to build a snowman years ago. So now it's all downside and none of the fun.

Every year we'd get snowfalls of 6 and 8 inches or more. I remember one 19 inch snowfall around 2014.

In October I bought a brand new snow thrower, hoping to have some fun with that. Fired it up once to test it. It's been hanging on the basement wall ever since, collecting dust.

If I'm stuck with winter, I actually prefer some snow on the ground. It makes walking easy even if there's ice underneath. Now it's just ice.

@hasmis Edit to the above: In October of 2019 I bought a new snow thrower.
