So, midnight on Halloween in Clarksburg, West Virginia. All the time I lived here 15 years ago, on or around Halloween was when the cold really hit you. Whoa! Go back in, put on warm clothes and try again. Ice crystals floating around the street lights. Every year was like that.

I've been indoors all day at 68F. Time to go home. Put on my hoodie because it's going to be cold. Step outside and it's 73.4 degrees! At midnight. Very creepy. Wrong. This is 40 degrees above what I expect.

It felt like a Santa Ana condition in Los Angeles, only that phenomenon is understood. Freaky, but understood. Happens from time to time when the airflow patterns reverse in Southern California.

But here in West Virginia? No. This is bizarre abd disturbing.

@paninid This is because for decades most police departments have been hiring the EXACT wrong people to be police officers.

You shouldn't hire people to be police officers who are doing so because they feel weak, powerless, or inferior and believe that wearing a uniform will make them powerful. There are LOTS of people like this.

Well run police outfits (they do exist) make new officers spend several YEARS working, usually in the jails, to prove they are mentally fit before they are ever allowed into a patrol car to deal with the public. Those agencies know what they are dealing with and know that most people who want to be police officers are exactly the wrong people.

@knittingknots2 Nothing new. I remember 40 years ago a dustup about Boeing charging USAF $20,000 for a toilet seat.
