@rms Yes. This didn't happene under the U.S. Tax Code in force in the 1950s and 60s. Hmm. I wonder why. ;-)
@Free_Press Yes, very nice to see U.S. engineering being used on the Russians -- not in simulations but for real.
An ATACMS loaded with clusters does a nice job. Nice to see it operating here and not just testing at China Lake. It's the missile version of a shotgun.
@wdlindsy Hmm...something, something ... pro life...something, something...pro life...blah, blah.
This isn't the Bronze Age anymore. Blood is on their hands. Unfortunately, there is no God to set this right so we must do it ourselves. We just have to do it.
This week, we learn about Candi Miller, a Black Georgia woman who was afraid to go to the hospital to get an abortion for a pregnancy doctors had told her might kill her. She got a medication abortion, but 5% of these require an extra dose or a D&C to complete the abortion. She died at home because she knew she couldn’t get a D&C in the hospital.

@catsrule0000 @tomiahonen Yes. What bothers me is that liberals are such nice people, accepting of others, that we won't do what's needed when it comes to prosecuting the criminal behavior that will occur in November.
@munin @hacks4pancakes Also, same as a kid. Long story which I won't relate. I'm an expert at code switching between multiple environments and different languages. As a teen I worked in at least four different environments, and in each of them I was a completely different person.
As far as I can tell, this concept of "code switching" is normal. Everyone has to do it in order to function.
@jonobie You're welcome. I hope it helps. I just wanted to make it clear that knives / edged gadgets are not a simple one-and-done thing. It's a craft that can be fun and interesting. It depends on the material (what kind of steel) and what you want from the knife. What are you cutting? How long do you want the edge to last? What kind of steel is the knife made of?
Are you slicing salmon steaks from a filet or are you chopping carrots for soup? These are entirely different things and one knife cannot do both efficiently. My hope was to communicate that. It's a fascinating field to study.
@HopelessDemigod Sigh. Gawd. Yes. I have no words.
Software people are supposed to know about this and expect it. Believe it or not, in 56 years of doing hardware/software I was only ever burned once by a race condition. It resulted from not studying the very fine details of the device. Still, it was my fault.
It was also the worst bug I'd ever tracked down. It was the only time I ever used a logic analyzer to track what was going on. Took me a full week to solve it but I finally did. There's a funny thing I overlooked in the specification of the Motorola MC6818 RTC clock chip. Hahaha.
So yeah... ouch!
Read the specs. Take ALL of it seriously. I didn't.
@jonobie Hmm. I hone every knife I'm about to use. Depending on the work, I hone again, and again, as I go.
About once a month, on an off day, I take all the knives (about 80) and re-edge and hone them.
Obviously, my routine is not applicable to knives in a home kitchen. At home I might go 6 months between sharpenings. Honing alone is fine for a long time.
My recommendation is to experiment. Play around. There's no set rule. I'm an engineer, but I'll say that it's not rocket science, it's a craft. It's fine to play around and find what works for you in your kitchen.
@opsnlops Yes, exactly. And that smell of wood makes me start looking for a saw.
@HopelessDemigod Holy shit. Really?
@jonobie Excellent. I'm a chef in a busy restaurant and am (among other things) the "knife guy". Been doing knives for 45 years. I do all the working knives in the restaurant.
When doing prep work, there's nothing more satisfying than a sharp knife with the kind of edge you need for what you're doing.
Just be aware that there's no one-size-fits-all with knives. Depends on what you're doing. Slicing tomatoes, chopping onions, cleaning a tenderloin, cutting cooked chicken breasts are all different things.
I do recommend learning how to hone a knife. Knives need frequent honing.
At any rate, since they do this professionally, I'm sure you'll be thrilled with the outcome. 🙂
A large number of Tesla cars have issues with the upper wishbone/a-frame that holds the front wheels on - water leaks into a ball/socket joint (a problem that other makers solved decades ago) and causes noise and binding - and perhaps much worse (as a general rule one ought not to play games with anything in the front suspension - it's just far too important to trifle with.)
But Tesla won't recall the cars and even requires owners to pay for the repair.
Compare Tesla's dismissal of a problem to Toyota:

@MiguelSmizSuarez Russian agent? Wouldn't surprise me.
"Has Elon Musk’s careless posting finally caught up with him? Just one day after having to play off his horrific take on the second attempted assassination of Donald Trump as a “joke,” the Tesla CEO is back in the hot seat again for sharing anti-Ukrainian content that, as it turns out, was actually generated by a Russian psychological operations team"
@smellsofbikes I'm glad someone spoke up. I figured there were like 300 people on the planet that were into this song. Now I wonder.
I see it not so much as a song of hope but literally the best advice you can give to any living thing. In the end, we are all just a flash in the pan and done. Just be glad to be here.
@k9ox Haven't used Google search in six years. You can do it. It isn't even hard.
@karlauerbach @smellsofbikes Same here. Terrific piece.
Weird that the three of us are so into it.
