I keep seeing people assuming that the efforts to require verified government IDs to access social media and other websites (such as the new laws in Utah) are being pushed solely by the Right. This is incorrect. Most of the efforts are bipartisan, and they are being driven by high level Republican *and* Democratic politicians at both the state and federal level, on a "protect the children by forcing everyone to be fully identified and tracked when they use the Internet" basis.

This is one of those rare must-see videos. Go ahead. You won't be sorry. I promise.

4 YEAR OLD: I can't sleep, Daddy. I'm afraid of Frankenstein.
ME: Don't you mean Frankenstein's monster?
4 YEAR OLD: I do not. Personally, I find unethical and irresponsible scientific practice far more terrifying than any monster and so should you.

While some say noncompetes only apply to big shot corporate executives, that's simply not true.

Here's the story of hair stylist Emily Olson, who was trapped by a noncompete so restrictive that it prohibited her from even doing her own mother's hair...

Antisemitism on Twitter has more than doubled since Elon Musk took over the platform – new research.

In the days after Elon Musk took over Twitter in October 2022, the social media platform saw a “surge in hateful conduct,” which its then safety chief put down to a “focused, short-term trolling campaign.” New research suggests that when it comes to antisemitism, it was anything but.

Rather, antisemitic tweets have more than doubled over the months since Musk took charge, according to research at tech firm CASM Technology and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue think tank conducted. theconversation.com/antisemiti

I've been reading books from 1918-1948 and about those years and it often makes me think of this quote.

I feel the world is in such a dark place and worse is probably around the corner. Texts about and from the period of the Spanish flu, '30s Europe, WW2... they're depressing, but also informative.

It's important to learn how societies slip into cruelty and repeat past mistakes (or strategies...) over again.

It helps to read about people surviving and questioning the world around them.
