@thatguyoverthere it's embarrassing I needed this meme to put two and two together

@skells honestly my biggest gripe (larger than censorship and unpersoning) with the centralized platforms is their data collection and utilization. They also share quite a bit of that data with the government.

@thatguyoverthere sure, you can make the same arguements about open posts on fedi, although it's perhaps less easy to parse this won't be a problem for big, well funded entities

@thatguyoverthere my own concern is the "you must be registered as a person to post" - it's no accident that the federalist papers were anonymously published.

I can see well-intentioned reasons behind it, but it'll have a cooling effect also.

it's also been a clear talking point from many sockpuppets so I'm super suspicious of it

@skells yeah I'm with you. I think we have a certain right to anonymity. Just like I don't think the government should be allowed to use facial recognition on public streets, I think forcing people to tie their identity to their online persona is obtrusive. Some people need anonymity to feel safe doing their jobs (a good journalist for example).

@thatguyoverthere
i feel we are at the point where everyone not feverishly supporting the mainstream agenda is at risk of losing their job.

- not covid-vaccinated? jobless or mobbed.
- not hating everything russian? jobless or mobbed.
- thinking that just because a child doesn't love to wear pink/blue it isn't automatically "trans"? jobless or mobbed.

you just need to get noticed by the brigades and that's it. fuck it, if they push for tying my identity to my online persona, i just stop using the net. or start to do packet radio or whatever. maybe a sneaker net like in cuba.
