is there any source for this Xi house arrest thing, can't find anything on regular news

@skells The only thing I've seen are randos on twitter talking about it. Apparently the logic behind the rumor is that there are an unusually low amount of airline flights over their capitol and numerous flights have been cancelled.

Until I see video I'm chalking it up to the usual twitter logic of "This small thing must mean something crazy and unrelated"
@7 @skells Yeah, I'm looking through the feed right now, So far it's just people who know nothing repeating each other and some random Indian news sites that I know nothing about.

@ins0mniak @7 seems like something is going on, quite how one gets to Xi under house arrest

with Iran and everything else going crazy, you get the sense that we're at an historical hinge point, who knows

@skells @7 Yeah, I guess we'll find out eventually one way or another.

I will say, a lot of these posts are coming form Indian accounts and those people are notoriously dumb on social media. They'll spread any conspiracy they see for some reason.

@ins0mniak @skells That it’s primarily Indian sources doesn’t lend confidence. And Zeng’s a good reporter but she’s not shy to announce the dead ends she’ll pursue that fit her interests.

@7 @skells For sure. India's entire country are like American facebook boomers. Thye'll believe anything and spread the hell out of it.

I'm also starting to see posts from different accounts that seem to be repeating more or less the same sentences.

Troll farm maybe?

@ins0mniak @7 haha no doubt, weird use for a troll farm tho

usually when bots are spouting similar lines there's an agenda

@skells @ins0mniak It could be a rogue element trying to spur nationalism in India. Making a self-fulfilling prophecy? Ionno, not enough info.

Follow

@7 @ins0mniak just seems odd timing with Iran but yeah not enough info

"data, data, data; I cannot make bricks without clay!"

@skells @7 Yeah, it's also Twitter.

Everyone is an international affairs expert, lol

@ins0mniak @7 international affairs is easy

blame the CIA

@skells @ins0mniak I really want to blame it on an amateurish plot by the Indian Intelligence Bureau or the R&D Wing.

@7 @ins0mniak that would be cool, flexing their new toys

@7 @ins0mniak isn't it weird af that this is how we shoot the breeze in the 21sr century

@7 @skells It's always amazing to me who many people see those kinds of things on birdsite and just accept it as truth immediately.

@ins0mniak @skells then I will be sure to disclaim:

this is not financial advice

@7 @ins0mniak my name's skells@qoto and welcome...

*launched out of catapult*

@skells @ins0mniak At least it’s no longer just the domain of the elite. Now everyone can make terrible decisions and analyses on the geopolitical scale.

@7 @ins0mniak this is why they're terrified of the internet

@ins0mniak @skells I know my takes can be pretty shit when I have little info, but thank fuck I’m not “twitter-screenshot” tier. That’s just straight wishful thinking.

@7 @skells I hardly go on there because I'd be screenshotting these idiots all day.
@7 @skells @ins0mniak no doubt that's just Twatter's bot farm. from the Elon lawsuit, we can infer that it's about 85% bots.

perhaps the Xi story is merely an impulse test to see how far a non-bot rumor will spread. they'll need that information to tailor the 'abattoir hesitancy' campaign next year for the FEMA camp muster.
@not_br549 @7 @skells Defiantly. So, my theory on why someone would be bot farming twitter with this bullshit is that the only "news" sites reporting on it were these sketchy ass Indian sites. I mean, clicks? Ads? something. It's the only thing that seems to make sense.

I would love to see Elon's data on Twitter. That site is such a mess of agenda driven bullshit.

@ins0mniak @7 @not_br549 No Agenda just saying that canceled flights and trains seem most likely the source

I like the impulse test thing though, more interesting than a dying Twitter just chasing eyeballs with not farms

@skells @7 @not_br549 Yeah I will say in fairness, that a shit load of cancelled flights in China seems really weird.

That of course could be a lot of things. Chinese politics are a big black box. Say, for example they had some computer issue and grounded their planes while they fixed it. The last thing the PRC would do is tell anyone about it. They love projecting the image they've cultivated for them selves.
@ins0mniak @7 @skells yeah, they'll cancel flights in China for a lot of reasons, they did all that lockdown stuff for the pandemic. and it's entirely possible that there is some political unrest somewhere in the country -- it's a huge country.

but I don't think it is anything that Xi and his security apparatus can't handle.
@not_br549 @7 @skells I agree. I don't think XI is in too much danger of an overthrow.

I heard someone else say that as well, that large scale flight cancellations aren't too unusual over there.

@ins0mniak @7 tbf if it's anything to do with the Clinton's doing bad shit I fall for it hook line and sinker so I guess there's an audience for every meme

@skells @7 Well that's probably because even if a Clinton rumor is bogus, they're still most likely doing something shady.

If they're not doing something shady, you know they're thinking about it.
@ins0mniak @7 @skells reading this thread sure is reminding me why twitter became completely unbearable and i just went back to fedi lol
@rats @7 @skells Oh yeah, lol.

I have an account because I follow my local weatherman. That's about all I get out of it.
