If you use the thumb to point at the 3 sections of each of the 4 other digits you can get to 12, doing that once for each finger gets you to 60. Using the other hand for multiplication can get you to 360.

@thatguyoverthere i think twelve is nice for easy division, factorises into 2, 3, 4 and 6 whereas ten only has 2 and 5.

hexadecimal is just 2^4, factorises into 2, 4 and 8 and no primes.

@thatguyoverthere Yeah, perhaps in some ways it is good to think of yourself as being an idiot, a novice continually learning in the garden. The growth mindset works better in this sense, it is about gaining mastery over a skill. I may also appreciate the knowledge and wisdom more, especially when I think about the small sayings related to farming. It was a huge part of the lives of our ancestors.

Yeah. I think we do get a combination, there are things our body can produce itself, there are things we get from our diet and other things from our environment. I do think you may right about touching grass more. We shouldn't be prescribing drugs so much, but making lifestyle changes and having people there to support people to do this in a practical way. Too often, depressed people are expected to either take drugs or lift themselves out of it. They might see someone for an hour, if that. But nothing beats actual socialising, even having someone coming over to pick you up so that you can socialise while doing something. We're a lot more isolated now than we would have been in the past. A community would have provided these opportunities in abundance, not just being able to buy what we need from the store would have driven us to others and those opportunities too.

I am still an idiot in the garden, and I think I probably always will be. That said I am always learning new things and I think that's part of why it remains an interesting area of study. There is also the fulfillment aspect of seeing the fruits of your labor in the most literal sense of the phrase, but I think I almost appreciate the gained knowledge and wisdom more.

The thing with serotonin is pretty interesting. When I was younger I learned serotonin affects the brain, but I always assumed all of the hormones we processed were created by the body or maybe in some cases in our food. It turns out with serotonin at least a sizable portion is created by bacteria in our gut and throughout our environment.

I have a theory that people literally need to go touch grass more on a massive scale. I think one of the problems we have in the modern world is people disregard the relationship they have with the environment and think they can get everything they need cleanly wrapped in plastic. When a person is suspected of having a serotonin imbalance, we prescribe drugs instead of lifestyle changes. It's backwards madness.
