At the end of the day, unintelligent people always look for a scapegoat.

Intelligent people are hungry for continual guidance and mentorship, take responsibility for their actions, and can control their emotions in times of instability.

My quick attempt at a cross-fade of the astonishingly deep #JWST Fine Guidance Sensor image and @BayfordburyObs@twitter.com’s image of the same field

It would improve the security of #Bitcoin nodes if they automatically tracked BCH and other SHA256d PoW systems (not necessarily blockchains).

Then the node could have a true sense of the full global mining hashrate (which could be switched to an attack on Bitcoin at any time, even if not currently mining Bitcoin), and adjust its security predictions appropriately.

@0 @7 How long can we *maintain*? I wondered. How long before one of us starts raving and jabbering at this junior dev? What will he think then? This same box was the last known host for Google+'s app servers. Will he make that grim connection when my senior architect starts screaming about batch files and huge DDoS's coming down on the cluster? If so--well, we'll just have to degauss his Thinkpad and bury it somewhere. Because it goes without saying that we can't let him make any commits. He'll report us at once to to some kind of code of conduct enforcement agency, and they'll run us down like dogs.

Dennis! Did I *type* that? Or just think it? Was I typing? Did I get +kb'd from the channel?

@11112011 > In 2020, for the first time in over a century, California recorded a net loss in its total number of residents, with over 182,000 fewer Californians at the end of the year than at the beginning. The pattern continued, albeit to a lesser degree, in 2021, which saw a population decline of nearly 118,000 for the Golden State. At the same time, New York City saw a population decline of around 4 percent in just the first year of the pandemic, according to Cornell analysis of U.S. Census data.
