I got a new laptop a few days ago and my biggest complaint was that the screen wasn't bright enough. Turns out that was because I couldn't find the brightness setting. My biggest problem with most desktop linux is the lack of a centralized settings manager

@valleyforge You can almost always just adjust it by poking sysfs.
There's no centralized brightness manager because no one agrees on a "system layer" to centralize this outside the kernel (for better or worse.)
