Good news: that old apple tree in an abandoned orchard in a nearby forest is blooming. Bad news: we expect freezing temperatures over the next few nights. Hope it survives – those apples are delicious.

@szescstopni@qoto.org What those gardeners do is spraying misty water over them while it's freezing. Then a protective ice layer will be formed around those blooms, protecting them for the most part against the direct freezing cold.

@trinsec Yes, there are great high-tech solutions, I know someone in this business. But it's expensive, and really works only on huge plantations. This is just an old apple tree in the forest, hard to reach. Sometimes it has fruit, sometimes it doesn't. Life.

@szescstopni@qoto.org Spraying misty water isn't really a high-tech solution. :D But if it's a tree in the middle of nowhere, yeah, then that's just nature.

@trinsec I know about complex towers on plantations – hi-tech, even though all you get is water mist :) In this case I'd have to walk a kilometre with a ladder, climb, spray – and I wouldn't be sure if I'm doing it right.
