@freemo
The problem of
"This must be canceled, because someone might be offended"
shows up in a lot of Fediverse content "moderation".
If instance content moderation seeks to protect the feelings —and identity— of anyone who feels offended, or just claims that someone else may be offended, and files a complaint,
an instance adhering to such moderation principles will effectively get censored by an
HOA of Karens.

Case in point:
In Elon Musk's cesspit, where you can say anything and get totally shadow banned,
x.com/Tatzelbrumm/status/18194
I made a comment on Simone Biles loving her "black job" as "Greatest of all time"
with a mashup picture of Surya Bonali's blackbody radiation.

The HOA of Karens doing content policing at fediscience.org
cancelled it for "racism".

For your principled stance against such nonsense,
qoto.org
is blacklisted as "free speech area" at a lot of Fediverse instances where people who matter to me still have their primary presence.

It's talk like a pirate day! Here I go:

"I just want to access the media I already own in a portable format that I can watch or listen to in high quality on all my devices without DRM or adverts."

Did I do it right?

@Labonitamascota @anneroth

Nein.
Die deutsche Ausbeuterklasse ist viel diskreter als neureiche libertäre Tech Bros aus dem Silicon Valley.

@anneroth

The small things manifesto.

I haven't shared this in a while, and it is still good. Frankly, it's due for an update.
ajroach42.com/the-small-things if you've ever wondered what the heck I'm doing, or why I'm doing it, or how you can get involved, this is as good place as any to start.

It is a statement of intention, an explanation, and a call to action.

Small is good. Community is good. Respecting your neighbors is good.

If—
By Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

What the *&^%$#@ was Lex Fridman thinking when he added a long AMA section and Rudyard Kipling's poem "If" to his interview with Donald Trump?

@quinn
Nowadays, bluesky is mostly crickets for me.

And the occasional Obligatory Monty Python Reference.

@quinn
I got blocked by the self-righteous moral busybodies on bluesky in no time,
because they felt offended by my Hitler references.

Y'know,
that
«Context collapse "generally occurs when a surfeit of different audiences occupy the same space, and a piece of information intended for one audience finds its way to another" with that new audience's reaction being uncharitable and highly negative for failing to understand the original context.»
