Anyone here run a "lightweight" #matrix server? There seem to be a few options.

I'm looking for something to replace Mattermost, which is what I replaced Slack with. This used to be for business/team comms but now it is just how Kat and I mainly communicate things online like lists, links, etc. We mainly want and use a web UI for this, but would also like to be able to talk to it with a native phone app that can do alerts/etc.

It needs to be able to at least handle some basic formatting and images.

I've looked into a few options around #XMPP or Matrix and could go either way but feel Matrix may be the way to go.

@yvan if storing only on user devices and nothing on the server is OK, apps communicating over e-mail () or (Monocles, Cheogram) seems quite lightweight. They all have multi-device support, so backups could just be a 2nd device as the same user or a 3rd bot user in a group chat.
