I'm not sure how long it'll last but some of us in @SocialCoop have been experimenting with #jabber as an alternative to #matrix for chat over at social.coop@conference.mayfirst.org Drop in and say hello? Maybe we should run a server at social.coop?

@paulwalk @SocialCoop yeah, while there are other options @sam clued me in to a new client called Prose (opensource but only only macOS at the moment) which is quite nice:

In wandering around their Github I learned they use @prosodyim as a server which is still actively developed, and written almost entirely in Lua?! Kinda badass.

#XMPP is being used even as the backend of forums etc. by front-end projects like @goffi 's #Libervia and by #Movim, so you could probably replace Zulip/Discord/Slack too
