@gabrielesvelto There are plenty of community driven projects that aren't systemd. systemd is outright hostile to the free and open source communities, that many GNU/Linux distribution have switched to it is a a bit problem.
In his "Design of Design" book, Brooks defines "style" something like "micro-decisions taken consistently"
That is a very important insight which most programmers do not get to until they have done a lot of damage.
@lxo isn't it wishful thinking? AI needs compute that individuals and the environnent can't afford, and that corporates wouldn't let be applied against proprietary bits.
@zens @akkartik harfbuzz arabic support is some of the best currently available! the original author is persian so he has intimate knowledge of the arabic script in particular.
I've met him a few times and he said he started the project because he wanted to make a website for persian poetry years ago but it just wasn't possible lol... so he had to spend about a decade writing the best open source text shaping library first, now he can make his website no problem 🙏
@ajroach42 not my cup of tea, but this is what @dynebolic was for and a new version is coming up, so CC-ing @jaromil for pointers to guides
@ian I mean I think people would be pro-copyright if copyright wasn't really broken. I imagine few people really believe if someone makes something and sells it, someone else should be able to immediately buy one copy, change the name on the front, and then sell hundreds of them to others. It's just copyright law has been overextended to ridiculous proportions.
@ian plus it spews lies everywhere! Then other LLMs are gonna get trained on those bullshit sources and repeat them. Informational microplastics
@oook this must have been an appreciable amount of work, it is like a #Unikernel but with #HaikuOS instead of with a guest application.
Have you ever had an experience like, you're walking down the street, there's a piece of litter, and you kind of like, kick it by accident, your foot grazes it, and suddenly you feel a compulsion to pick it up and put it in a trash can? This is litter, it wasn't your problem, but then you accidentally touched it and it Became your problem, somehow the act of touching it tagged it as "yours" and now the superego says you're obligated to deal with it?
That's what open source contribution is like
systemd-tmpfiles, deleting /home
@bremner Home is temporary, David, for we are mere mortals
A little over a 10yrs ago, it looked like Spain’s beloved ritual of an afternoon nap after lunch would be abolished to align work days & productivity with the rest of Europe. It didn’t happen.
One University of London study found that taking a short daytime nap delays the brain shrinkage that comes with aging. Another study from researchers at the Berkeley, found that taking an hour-long nap helped improve students’ ability to learn & perform better on tests.
@SecurityWriter @mozilla Sounds like… *checks notes* … Mozilla being Mozilla?
I remember the wise words of their one-time head of public policy to me: “Why are you holding us to such a higher standard? We’re just another Silicon Valley tech company.”
@jalcine Hi. Cold-calling to say your blog about domain name dependence [1] in #Indieweb sounded like it was solved by #Hubzilla / #Streams, and I was pleased to see it was already considered! [2]
FWIW, they addresses the concerns about #OpenWebAuth in the Streams forum

@mathiasx just spit-balling here ...
#Erlang all the things!
#Unikernel all the things!
And I do wonder how #Yunohost or #Nix / #Guix or #FreedomBox / #LibreServer / #Sandstorm handle all this ...
@jnpn sorry, it was more like excerpts in study notes. I remember reading elsewhere about some high-powered Lisp team in Australia doing big things, but don't have a bookmark.
