@strypey I would say "yes, you are being too honest". "their" question "will you do this to the best of your ability" is itself dishonest since drawing a paycheck for as long as possible is the goal of most employees already "there". Doing your best anyway would make you atleast effective as other paycheck-takers.

GNU Emacs 30.1 has been released! Congratulations to the maintainers and developers -- and thank you to them, too! Several FSF staff and board absolutely depend on it. The new version's coming soon to a mirror near you: lists.gnu.org/archive/html/ema #emacs

A quick-and-dirty observation:

All the people who are talking and posting about the "flux and ambiguity of living through the current times" are the ones least affected by it.

The ones actually affected don't have that luxury. They are busy spending every waking second trying to wade through the very same 'flux and ambiguity'...

@mindaslab do you think that 200 years of British colonization and many centuries of Islamic attacks before that had no impact, and the "caste" system was bad even earlier? If mud is put in water, the water does not remain clean - but nobody should blame the water for it!

jaati was a widespread system for a community to sustain its members. Even now, there are prosperous classes sustaining on jaati - Chettiar communities, Reddy communities, Marwari communities, Patel communities, etc.

@lxo my impression was that GNU started w/ userland and w/ dev tools, while hardware came w/ OS and source code drivers. Maybe the userbase attracted by that (Emacs, me) isn't used to caring about the underlying system, and hardware-bundled OS replaced by Linux was uninteresting?

I would like all general-purpose s/w to be free, and also have source code for drivers. But, theoretically, wouldn't it be enough if drivers presented a standard API/ABI? GPU code can't access n/w anyway - secure.

@mindaslab pre-colonization, there were 1 lakh primary schools in Bengal alone as per British surveys, teaching all castes and girls. Big numbers everywhere they surveyed, including TN.

Further education at home, in the family profession. Quick, effective, employment guaranteed (so people got married quite early in life 😁 jokes apart, women learnt the same since the entire family worked).

They worked fewer hours, didn't put kids in daycare.

Were well off enough to be looted by colonization.

@mindaslab define wealth? Culturally, food, medicine and education were free in pre-colonization India. That is how wealthy we were. Earning lakhs of rupees means little when you spend lakhs for food, medicine and education.

Wealth looted by corrupt people in government is tax money. India is not a geographical idea, it is the people in it; high incidence of taxes only impoverishes people. Wealth of companies comes from looting nature (and polluting Vaigai). It comes at a great cost to others.

@mindaslab empty the wealth FROM here is what I meant, obviously. They left all the other countries they had occupied in the same time period, and most of them didn't have freedom movements. Explain that.

They polluted education and governance, obviously. But after them, the Vaigai is polluted, temple wealth is misused, religious conversion has exploded. Explain that too.

@SwiftOnSecurity This one:

"The difference between encrypted information and radio noise is your faith there cannot be a key for the static."

if I make a mistake in english do not correct me. I have no respect for this language

@mindaslab this is all futile bombast. no answers to queries raised. deflection on answers to queries.

In case there is a genuine interest in culture, visiting other states would show you that most things in TN culture are there everywhere, just that other people don't have an agenda against tradition. I have lived in TN, and lived or travelled in 3 other states. South Indians are all the same. Saying that you are some exceptional people is exactly what Hitlers do.

If you’re feeling down, why not just go for a run? You’ll quickly realize your physical health is way worse than your mental health.

@mindaslab you didn't kick out the British, they left after World War 2 after they had emptied the wealth here. But they left their influence in the hands of Dravidians, who have polluted the Vaigai and supported religious conversion as well as looting of community wealth in temples.

And you were saved from the Mughals by the rest of India, if you know geography.

What exactly is there to be proud of if you reject commonality with the rest of India?

@mindaslab he he, you are the one who wants to kick out everything else, but you are also lecturing me about understanding different cultures.

bots again

This is how part of the AI training cost is offloaded to the sysadmins of the world. Fuck this shit.
