@AlaskaWx @Climatologist49 @Ruth_Mottram @ZLabe Is there any explanation for the dramatic change in behaviour around 1990? 'Constant" is not really something I think of when trying to find words to describe climate.

Ukrainians are never shy about criticising Zelensky or the military policies and tactics but it doesn't usually make English-language media. Klitschko's comments, which have been trickling from German to English papers over the last 3-4 days, are a pretty big strike, and yet he says he doesn't want Zelensky to leave office while the war is on.

Oleksii Arestovych, on the other hand, has been outspoken about his own ambitions since he was ousted in January.

We’re hiring a JavaScript developer to work on Zotero “translators” — the pieces of code that let people save metadata and files to their Zotero libraries from across the web with a single click.

This is an open-ended contract role that can scale up and down in hours based on availability and workload. If you like web scraping, APIs, data formats, and exploring sites in the browser devtools, send us an email!

"What is AI? It is a marketing term. It's a way to make automation sound magical. As such it is a way to dodge accountability by making machines sound like autonomous entities rather than tools created by people and companies. Discussion about this technology becomes much clearer when we replace "AI" with "automation" and ask: What is automated? Who is automating? Who is profiting and who is harmed?"

@philipncohen
What? it took 30 years to change the methodology across the states?

@tzimmer_history
I think this is simplifying the situation in Russia, where my reading is that the Kremlin rhetoric of the day is very much a tactical choice to play towards the divisions in the US and the west more broadly, as well as appease the only demographic left in Russia that could plausibly provide organic support to Putin.

Consider that the same Putin overseeing the outright banning of LGBTQ existence sent a band famous for its on stage lesbian kisses to represent Russia in Eurovision. Or that the president now praising having many children doesn't publicly acknowledge having any himself...

In other words, in this view Putin is not really pulling any strings, he's just trying to meet the American demand for authoritarian leaders, manipulating the market to his advantage the best he can: an ruthless entrepreneur with an advertising budget.

@salvabara
"Everything not consumed by humans is a waste" was not really a principle I expected to find in the context of nature preservation. I get the sentiment but I think the wording could use some work.

Also, arguing on the basis of photon numbers seems like begging for someone to reach out of the swamp of IR and pull you down into an unproductive discussion about "what is light anyway".

@cfiesler Well, he *is* doing a good job discrediting the smart nerd image the provided a lot of political cover for the harms coming out of Silicon Valley... but I doubt that's what he meant.

@Andy_Scollick Really, what was the point of saying that? What use do I have
of insincere well wishes? The polite thing to do would have been to not reply at all.

@Andy_Scollick I see you have no intention of taking anything I say as a good faith effort of making a point.

@Andy_Scollick Is "Last night, the occupationists almost ended up in a bad way." really compatible with "if nothing was done before diesel stores run out"? To me, that's a sensationalist framing. Here I also note the IAEA mention of reactor 4 "now" transitioning from "semi-hot shutdown" to hot, which to me strongly implies *action was taken* by the operators to lower the output of the core during the loss of external power.

More generally, the employees at the IAEA take substantial risks to bring us largely impartial accounts of what happens at the ZNPP precisely so we don't have to trust the word of the belligerents, who both try to use the dangerous situation at the ZNPP as a propaganda weapon.

@euractiv I hope you got some comission from a Kissinger foundation in exchange for putting up this praising title.

"Proctorio, for example, is a popular remote proctoring platform that uses AI to detect perceived behavior abnormalities by test takers in real time. Because the platform employs facial detection systems that fail to recognize Black faces more than half of the time, Black students have an exceedingly hard time completing their exams without triggering the faulty detection systems, which results in locked exams, failing grades, and disciplinary action."
