@annmlipton
Does the ad mention you have to take care of your own trash, or did that development not make the deadline?

@scronide
Yeah, I think the impression Dare is talking about is mostly about media logic, where streaming is normalised enough that every day growth and events stop making news, but there's not enough interest for mainstream media to provide the type of breathless navel gazing the car industry earns

If you are serious about giving an intellectual a prize for their work, and then you don't like something they write, you should value your own former judgment enough to consider it might be you, not them, that is wrong. Thoughtful commentary here from Dr. Radchenko. Make sure to read to the end, lest you be triggered by something in the beginning or middle. (Come to think of it, that’s good advice for anything longer than an unexpanded tweet.) twitter.com/DrRadchenko/status

@cfiesler
It can take a lot of courage to cold email people, making putting it off understandable to me.

Being in journalism is maybe not the right career if they struggle with reaching out, though one is also not required to be good at a subject until graduation :)

Abelardo captured on camera at least three soldiers firing into the ground near civilians. The army denies this.

Personally I think the "second pillar" is by far the most important, AfD isn't growing simply because they have good tactics...I don't know about the situation in Germany, but the experience in Sweden is that the dominant parties have no ambitious visions left: we are already at practically the best world one can hope for and it is all stewardship from here on, small wonder clear alternative visions are attractive...

To me the big question is why Greens aren't doing better

A secret project ordered by Putin to address the perceived imbalance resulting from the Cats movie?

In the latest shocking example of blatant disregard for humanity by western powers, an investigation by Al Jazeera and partners revealed that Frontex, the EU's official border patrol agency, has secretly been handing coordinates of #Europe bound crowded #migrant boats, to a Wagner linked Libyan militia vessel, known for horrendous abuses of migrants.

The militias then arrive at the location to kidnap & return migrants to #Libya.

It's the EU's plan to keep migrants out.

@jmaris Saying that is just outright denying the reality created by article 15.2 of the Treaty on European Union, not sure what you want to accomplish with it...

@Ruth_Mottram
Orban wins his national elections, he earned his place at the EU table and there's no quick way to "deal with" that.

In any case, he's hardly a big player in German or Dutch politics, a factor that can explain the illiberal gain: we simply do the undermining to ourselves and then try to blame an outsider rather than admit our own faults.

Wow, Zotero & Retraction Watch just stopped me from citing a retracted paper that had been hanging around in my bibliography. How great is that?

"I hate maths because I had a bad maths teacher"

"I hate books because I had a bad english teacher"

One of these is seen as a perfectly reasonable thing to say. The other one would prompt responses like "why the hell didn't you experience books anywhere other than a classroom?"

Flyktingkonventionens avskaffande

@Mabande

@carnage4life
This is such an American take its almost cringe; during Covid the EU created a digital system allowing anyone to verify a proof of vaccination, while the USA had medics sign *paper cards* that practically speaking were impossible to verify, but of course it is the EU that tries to preserve the past...

@kevinrothrock Will you make an end of year list with your top 5 worst of the year?

Also, I am humbled by how you manage to keep your standards of acceptance anchored, personally I've seen so much wild stuff online that a simple "they are different" seems like an almost normal claim :(

COP out. Wealthy countries most responsible for the climate emergency have so far pledged a total of just over $700m to the loss & damage fund – less than 0.2% of the irreversible losses developing countries face from global heating every year theguardian.com/environment/20 #COP28
