Det kan vara svårt för en del att höra, men böcker är inte någonting som är värt att skydda mer än ett människoliv.
Absoluta förbud mot att bränna / skända heliga skrifter är ett stort principiellt steg längre än de lagar vi har emot att döda någon - där tas uppsåtet i beaktande.

En specifik antibokbrännarlag betraktar uppsåtet som egalt och alla potentiella konsekvenser som likställda den värsta tänkbara. En förolämpning via att sträcka upp långfingret ses som ett överlagt mord.

tl;dr: IceCube started a public competition on ML algorithms for reconstructing #neutrino events. Hundreds of submissions, including several that are better than the current IceCube reconstruction and that they’re hoping to adopt now. Sounds like an incredibly successful outreach project!

Vichayanun, a student I co-supervise, will be the first person defending an experimental particle physics #PhD at a #Thailand university (as far as I know)! Such #trailblazing is an incredible achievement, don't underestimate how difficult it is to do something first in your country!

Hard to process Sinéad’s death. The nuns stole my cousin and sold her to Americans. My uncle drank himself to death after a childhood of rape by a priest in Ballyfermot - my mam and her 12 siblings grew up feral because the same priest told my nan to keep having kids. You can’t parent 13 kids and this predator knew it, so there was constant fresh meat for his appetites. Yet my mam was SHOCKED TO HER CORE when Sinéad ripped up the photo, she was so indoctrinated by that awful society.

Folks are deservedly launching careers based on early JWST results--but there were others who ran out of runway a few years before launch and took jobs with less time for research, or left the field entirely.

In "A Grand and Bold Thing" @AnnFinkbeiner talks about the generation of SDSS postdocs in the 90s who put in technical work but didn't get to reap the fruits. Many of the folks who came in a few years later were able to do great science and are now senior leaders in our field.
