@Trinsec actually, I recently learned that that's a common misconception. Egyptologists seem to agree that the evidence is stronger for the pyramids being built by paid workers, such as farmers who'd work there during periods of flooding. (see, for example, https://www.usnews.com/science/articles/2010/01/12/egypt-new-find-shows-slaves-didnt-build-pyramids one of the sources for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_ancient_Egypt)
