@trinsec I guess it's just a fad that's taken off. Some people do it then others copy and it becomes a thing. Sometimes that happens, something it doesn't.
I think what's particularly nice about Wordle is the fact there's only one puzzle per day, so it doesn't take up too much time. But also that everyone gets the same word so you get to compare results and discuss.
Sometimes simplicity itself is what makes something popular. So playing on your phone rather than watching on TV changes things.
@lydiaconwell But there were already software/games of LINGO around, so it's not that special. If I check the Play Store, there's plenty of LINGO variations.

But maybe the blocks thing is also a reason for popularity. Sometimes it's just good marketing (whether it's intentionally good marketing or not).
