@trinsec I guess it's just a fad that's taken off. Some people do it then others copy and it becomes a thing. Sometimes that happens, something it doesn't.
I think what's particularly nice about Wordle is the fact there's only one puzzle per day, so it doesn't take up too much time. But also that everyone gets the same word so you get to compare results and discuss.
Sometimes simplicity itself is what makes something popular. So playing on your phone rather than watching on TV changes things.
@lydiaconwell But there were already software/games of LINGO around, so it's not that special. If I check the Play Store, there's plenty of LINGO variations.
@trinsec As I said: some things take off, some things don't.
But I think the fact that it's one puzzle per day and everyone has the same puzzle that makes it popular. It's the sharing notes part afterward I think.
@lydiaconwell Sharing notes? Heh, it's just plastering some blocks about your progress of that day. :D
@trinsec No, I mean you can discuss it in detail once you've completed it.
But maybe the blocks thing is also a reason for popularity. Sometimes it's just good marketing (whether it's intentionally good marketing or not).
@trinsec remember, people are lazy. if I can just go to a website and play a game, that's easier than downloading an app. also, you say lingo was big in the 90s: I think I vaguely recall the show, but timing is off for the niche Wordle has as a game people can play in little inbetween times @lydiaconwell
@trinsec no golden balls tho... 🙃
