As I'm following more mastodon accounts, I find I want to enable notifications for certain accounts, but only for certain posts. Some that I follow do semi-regular guessing games or the like that I always miss until after they've already followed up with the answer, so I don't get to join in the fun.

@2ck When you go to their profile page, can't you turn on notifications for that user (the bell icon) to get the desired effect?

@trinsec no. that's all of their posts. at least it's supposed to be--i think I've missed some before or they came really late.

what I was thinking is they can use a hashtag maybe to highlight the posts. alternatively, if they could post to a group that's specifically for that thing, then I could get notifications for that, but it has less of the specificity of (account & hashtag)

@2ck Mm, wonder if you can do that with Sylus, check the CSS of their stuff (contains a text hashtag somewhere, contains their ID somewhere) and then colorize accordingly in your timeline?

@trinsec yes, but what you're suggesting wouldn't do what I want anyway. too much effort for the wrong thing=too hard

@2ck Stylus is a browser plugin that enables you to change a website's looks depending on the values you give it. It can be pretty powerful. I thought it could've helped you highlight a toot.

@trinsec I see. my problem isn't that I scroll past, but that I'm not even looking at my feed when the post comes up.

@2ck In that case.. maybe Greasemonkey, which then injects some javascript automatically playing some audio when certain criteria are met?
