@jq Sure. Freemo said there's more to sushi than the kind I mostly envisioned, which'd be the raw fish wrapped in rice. I've eaten it but I found it totally bland, and that you had to drown it soy sauce to get some sort of taste I found totally useless because you might as well drink soy sauce.

But I like those little tempuras and such, but am not quite sure when to call something sushi or not.

Was that thought provoking, or totally unprovoking? 😋

So to my understanding sushi is not made with raw fish, rather sashimi is. Thus saying you don't like sushi is like saying you don't like sandwiches. Since the only real consistent ingredient it needs is the rice. All other ingredients can be chosen to ones preferences.

Thus sushi can have mercury content, but if you choose salt water free creatures or a vegetarian option, I don't see that being a big issue.

Right, I knew there was some nuance to it, but I couldn't quite remember which. Mostly people just used the term sushi with an icky face to show their disgust for raw fish.

@trinsec

Now you can use the lovely phrase: "well actually..."

It's not that much different compared to an aquarium.
