If you're over 65 (like me,) don't get Medicare Advantage. Same bait and switch as pre-ACA health insurance policies - teaser low rates that are great as long as you never have a serious illness.

Unvetted, opaque predictive algorithms increasingly used to deny care to Medicare Advantage patients. Our AI future is looking rosier every minute. statnews.com/2023/03/13/medica

@arpcomics @brendannyhan@mastodon.soc US population increased about 7% since 2010 while housing starts increased > 250%.

@tb Someone tell me this has to be satire. "Game theory", man.

@inthehands First let's nail the usual suspects who leveraged their inside information to instigate the bank run.

@brendannyhan The cumulative plot of housing units is purposely deceptive. Look at the X axis of the cumulative plot of housing units. 5 year increments from 1975 to 2010 and 1 year after 2010. Embarrassing.

@lakens @coreyb Lakens' responses, including this last one, are so self revealing. Nate Silver's cousin.

@brendannyhan

"Look at how flat the number of units has been since 2010".

@Riedl Tried it and now I can't shutoff my machine.

The despicable libertarian VC Marc Andreessen, who usually posts on Twitter at least a dozen times per day, hasn't said a word since the Silicon Valley Bank was taken over by the FDIC.

@mavori @ct_bergstrom As @DonnaG mentioned, I'd be concerned about how confidence differences might play out in a wagering scheme.

And, if these are true/false tests, with @mavori 's scheme someone always betting certain would have an advantage over someone always betting uncertain if the expected number of correct answers in the test > 50% - which is usually the case.

@timbray @edwiebe Which credible critic of LLMs is saying that they are "glorified Markov chains"? Haven't heard that. And they aren't convolutional neural networks. They're composed of multiple transformers which most certainly are not Markov chains but they are entirely statistical.

@tedpavlic So good that 75% of the people in the ChatGPT group who weren't previous users don't use it at work!
