@lukasmandl from pragmatical viewpoint the reason for the continuation of ties with Putin's Russia is probably economical. If I am not mistaking Serbia enjoys open access to Russian market and since it is not an EU member Serbian companies would find it hard to compete on EU markets due to the trading barriers. Handling of Kosovo is a different topic. Serbia does not view Kosovo as it's neighbor but as an integral part of Serbia. But it is more complicated than that. Regardless of how we view the right of the Kosovo to the independence (NATO campaign in 1999 lacked UN mandate etc...), today Kosovo is de facto independent country and steering nationalistic sentiments on the both sides is the cheapest trick in the book for redirecting attention from the real issues, one of the being mass emigration of youth from both Kosovo and Serbia to EU countries.

@johnduggins all lives matter. How is gender not binary? You're either male or female or in some cases you just feel as one or the other despite your body. And that's also fine but in any case you have a gender identity of a male or female. Or am I wrong?

@skyblond I guess routing traffic through ssh toward some remote vps is still a possibility. This way everything is encrypted and I think it would be very hard to distinguish this traffic from legitimate ssh session. However I do not know the details of the surveillance mechanisms and I have no idea about any repercussions. One thing is certain, although this would be a secure connection it would also be clear to anyone watching that this is encrypted outgoing connection. So there is that.

@skyblond it is bad in any case for sure, my point was only that doing it over tor increases the risk however I did not account for authoritarian state scenario. I suppose in these states government also demands the installation of their certificates into trusted root certification authorities certificate store although I do believe this is the exact reason why firefox and chrome use their own stores, seperate from the operating system's one. I would assume that technically advanced totalitarian regimes also have the ability to detect and block tor traffic and even detect the usage of tor bridges (entry nodes that are not publicly listed).

@skyblond traffic between onion nodes has layered encryption. You have three nodes in the circuit and entry node does not know your destination, exit node does not know where you came from. However let's say you are not the most technical person and you use tor to access destination over plain text risk significantly increases when using tor - thehackernews.com/2021/05/over

@skyblond Tor can be dangerous. There are still quite some sites without SSL/TLS or with invalid certificate. Routing your traffic via tor exit nodes to such destinations is very risky.

@jpminda@mastodon.social public want's substitute chemotherapy with lemon juice and abolish vaccines. The one's who care will find mastadon.

@GiantRectangle and I have been in IT for a very long time and now I'm dreaming about being a carpenter or mechanic. Good luck on your journey.

@Vasu mastadon seems really great now, especially with sudden influx of users. I have tried if few years ago and it was kind of empty. I do get your point though. Having servers split by topics helps. I don't care about US politics or economics news while I do appreciate science.

@simoncrowe how do you like golang? Although not a developer, I'm relatively fluent in python however I find it to be slow and package management is a mess. Go is fast and golang's idea of producing single binary with statically linked libraries and the fact it can just compile for almost any platform out there makes it really interesting for me.

@Noah you are covering a frustrating topic. When pandemic started I was completely puzzled how a large proportion of a public in a first world country with 100% literacy rate failed to grasp how physical barrier - masks, distance and hand & surface sanitizing will help to prevent the spreading of the virus. Not to mention the inability of grasping simple math (hospital beds vs hospital needs) and vaccine hesitancy. I was looked upon as a complete idiot for being vaccinated and having my kids vaccinated. None of us contracted covid as far as we know. Good luck.
