Hot take: 40sw has made 45acp obsolete

@asuperhero It's about as powerful as 45acp in a smaller case diameter

@valleyforge About as powerful is not as powerful. It may have the velocity advantage, but not the stopping power.

I would trust my life against a bear with a 45ACP bullet, but not a 40SW. Which is something realistic I have to consider everytime I set foot outside.

However, I believe 40SW has a serious advantage in times of ammunition shortage, because no one is buying it, and it's still available everywhere for relatively cheap.

@asuperhero fair. I dont know where you are but its been sold out here for awhile

@asuperhero

When it sells out though it comes back slower. In auto pistol calibers I think the restock priority order tends to be 9mm, then 45 ACP, which offers a large and small primer option for manufacturers to load. The .380 ACP and .40 S&W follow, along with maybe 10mm.

@valleyforge

We may load our own but for the majority, factory is all they use. It's easy for us to decide what calibers are available as long as we can get components. Right now primers are the problem for anyone who didn't have any on hand.

@valleyforge
40 a little 'too hot' for all to handle.

Pros yes; amateurs--marginable.
