Also, analogue systems have indefinitely greater degrees of freedom; some (incl. Penrose) have argued the brain might be capable of sustaining quantum entanglement.

That being said, I think much of our culture and lifestyle serve to choke off those sources of creativity. We have way more potential as a species, setting aside our technological achievements, somehow we're not well calibrated to realise it.
