Wow. I actually did something useful with #ChatGPT! I get annoyed that some #Mastodon URLs send you to the homepage of the instance, making them difficult to follow from your own account, so I asked GPT to write a #javascript bookmarklet to redirect those URLs to my own domain. I just tried it and it works!

@kerim That is impressive, although I don't know to use the bookmarklet feature?

@voidabyss Bookmarklets are just browser bookmarks that point to javascript instead of a standard URL. You can just make a bookmark and save it in your favorites, then replace the URL with this code.

@kerim I tried your bookmarklet but it doesn't seem to work for e.g. ``qoto.org/@kerim@zirk.us``
don't return your profile from qoto.org domain.

@freemo

@voidabyss @freemo That is because it is supposed to work in the opposite direction. It solves the problem that if you are at zirk.us/@kerim you can't easily follow or interact with my profile, so it directs you to my profile as you would see it from your own domain.

Follow

@kerim @freemo If I understand correctly the bookmarklet transform the url `zirk.us/@kerim `` to ``qoto.org/@kerim@zirk.us``
So I can follow your profile directly from my domain.

The issue I have is that url returns page not found for some reason.

@voidabyss If you just click on my profile now, what URL do you see?

@voidabyss Seems your server is configured differently than mine. I can't test for you, but try:

qoto.org/web/accounts/@kerim@z

and

qoto.org/web/@kerim@zirk.us

Do either of those work for you?

@voidabyss You'll have to ask your system admin. I see your server is running Mastodon v3.2.1, while mine is running version 4, that might be part of the issue?
