@hittitezombie correct, and the order was illegal because Congress had never passed a bill granting authority for such an order.
That there was no bill giving legal authority is the whole issue.
@hittitezombie The Supreme court is being very consistent in constraining the authority of federal agencies to make interpretations beyond the authority expressly granted them by congress. This will not be the last time that Trump - if elected - will be hoisted by his own petard regarding limitation on the power of executive agencies. Trump would like to rule like a dictator, but no man rules alone. In placing a court that will weaken "the deep state" Trump will also find his own executive authority more limited. Neither he nor his voters are anywhere near intelligent enough to make this connection.

Why isn't anyone asking:
"Were you wrong to ban bump stocks or did the Supreme Court betray you?"
@hittitezombie To which the answer *should* be, "We we anxious to take immediate action, but were wrong not to involve congress when we did so. This was an administrative overreach, and congress should quickly take action to correct the situation."
