@garethmarlow Plant a tree to offset it. Plant 2 if you have real tree to hang decorations on :)
Have a good Christmas Gareth
This is a beautiful performance, sung in Ukrainian by Georgians (Katie Melua and the Gori Women's Choir), and is associated with Christmas in the West. But it is a New Year song in Ukraine, expressing hope for a prosperous new year.
To my Ukrainian friends - may 2023 be a lot better for your country than 2022.
Happy Christmas everyone, and #SlavaUkraini
@fuzzyduck I have. So I boosted your post, when without my lecture I wouldn't have bothered to disturb my followers 🙂
@ademalsasa I use CryptEdit. It's not exactly a "password manager" - but it can be used to encrypt any text
@Bill5338 2. "Advance bookings" - as seen on minicabs
@lifeattable OK, you are quite correct. It would have been useful for Friulano to have an index entry!
If you have checked in those books, I have little more to add. You could try asking one of the authors of Wine Grapes perhaps? They can be quite responsive to questions like that, but it probably helps if you ask on their Purple Pages forum - sadly I am no longer a member.
@lifeattable I don't know about LATEST research, but is there any serious controversy? Jancis's "Wine Grapes" very specifically says it is from the Gironde, and introduced to Italy in the early 19th century. Also, Ian d'Agata does not give it an entry in his very comprehensive "Native Wine Grapes of Italy"
@nathanalbert@mastodon.online I'm not a "fan" of the Oxford comma, as generally speaking it just adds clutter to a sentence. I may use it for clarification, to indicate where you would naturally pause in speech, but if clarity is really important, it's best to reword the sentence and not rely on punctuation to provide it.
@peterdrake I'm not convinced it was ever true for (un)happy families either. But the quotation is at least good in the sense that it makes you think
I know the definition of "artificial intelligence", but am I right that (in the media at least) it is now pretty much synonymous with "machine learning" - the identification of patterns in data that may not be detected and understood by humans, but can have predictive capability. Likewise with "algorithm" actually, in that the word is now used in a very specific, often sinister, way by the media

@bhinflorida That "3 day" dog looks like your Flossie, @likesohushhush, in more ways than one. Hopefully settling in a bit now

I just knew you would love to see a baby seagull right now 😊
Enjoying nature is a good way to remember what’s at stake at our warming planet during the sixth extinction.

@Pat I discovered by chance, when it once annoyed me by popping up, that Google Assistant already has an effective "Fuck off" function
@bigzaphod I want an IBM-PC-style "big red switch", which gives tactile feedback about its status, and a satisfying clunk to indicate when the status changes. Also, when it is in the off position, the machine is properly off - not checking for opened documents and updates etc
@alscriv Chicken and egg situation perhaps, if you see what I mean. Mastodon can be scary enough even with all the information presented in your native language
@alscriv Do you know if there is a Georgian server were the locals hang out? One problem with Mastodon federation seems to be that search doesn't work well between instances, unless accounts that are already linked. So a Georgian language server is likely to stay quite isolated
