Ph.D. student and expert talks 🥳

Charles is responsible for the fun stuff by organizing the social and networking events. The events range from virtual coffee meetings to international mixers bringing together young microscopists from the different microscopy societies around the globe.

🎳 🎢 🌐

Charles is currently a PhD student at the University of Siegen. His research focuses on the use of advanced EELS and 4D-STEM techniques for complex material characterization (2D-vdW materials). He is enthusiastic about meeting new people and traveling to new places.

🔬 🚅 🗨️

In his position as the Life Sciences Co-Chair Moritz participates in the organization of the symposium at the . Furthermore, he operates the Twitter-account.

:mastodon: 📝

He is currently in his second year as a doctoral candidate at the institute of cell biology at the Universität Bayreuth, where he mainly works with transmission . He is a fan of podcasts and his most valuable gadget is his sandwich-maker.

Simone is our secretary & treasurer. She set up the structure of our archive, plans the agenda for general meetings & takes notes of what is discussed. As treasurer, she applies for reimbursement when a member paid on behalf of the group.

📒 💰

Simone finalizes her Ph. D. in neurobiology at WWU Münster. She studies the development of cells in fly brains that have a highly complex shape which she can only see using TEM. She enjoys singing when she’s alone at the microscope.

As second speaker at yDGE, Johannes helps in organizing events like our symposium at the MC2023, does different tasks including designing our cover image and communicates with third parties. Johannes also takes part in our yDGE meetings.

🏜️ 🎫 ☎️

Johannes is currently finishing his doctoral thesis on 4D-STEM in SEM at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in Prof. C. T. Koch’s group. In his spare time Johannes enjoys cycling, volleyball and tinkering.

🚴 🏐 🔌

Milena Hugenschmidt @M_Hugenschmidt has initiated our group and presides it since Jan 2022. She is heading our meetings and leads all our activities. She also plays a central role in the planning of our yearly symposium.

🖋️ 📆 🗺️

Milena got her PhD in Physics at LEM Karlsruhe (@KIT_Karlsruhe) in early 2022, focusing on STEM-in-SEM. She is now a Postdoc at EMAT in Antwerpen (uantwerpen.be/en/research-grou). yDGE allows her to interact with like-minded people and expand her leadership skills. Away from work, she enjoys cycling and gardening.
