Happy Holidays from us to everyone!🎄 This very tiny snowman was created by Jana from our electron microscopy facility. It is made of recycled TEM copper mesh grids, which are slides for electron microscopy. They have a diameter of 3.05 millimeters and consist of 100 little squares called "meshes." Jana cut all the little parts out of some grids, put the parts together, and mounted it on a glass slide. The picture was taken with a light microscope. #mpicbg #merrychristmas #snowman

Simone is our secretary & treasurer. She set up the structure of our archive, plans the agenda for general meetings & takes notes of what is discussed. As treasurer, she applies for reimbursement when a member paid on behalf of the group.
📒 💰
Simone finalizes her Ph. D. in neurobiology at WWU Münster. She studies the development of cells in fly brains that have a highly complex shape which she can only see using TEM. She enjoys singing when she’s alone at the microscope.

Our paper introducing PK Mito Orange (PKMO) has finally been published. It was a great pleasure to work together with @TianyanL on this project. Wonderful collaboration between @ZhixingChen2 and @JakobsLab!
We are thrilled to announce that the outstanding mitochondrial probes PKmito ORANGE , RED and DEEP RED will be available at Spirochrome in January 2023.
PKmito probes are gentle to the cells and allow long term imaging as well as recording amazingly crisp STED images of mitochondrial cristae.
Read more about PKmito ORANGE in the fresh article from Zhixing Chen and Stefan Jakobs labs out in @PNASNews

Milena Hugenschmidt @M_Hugenschmidt has initiated our group and presides it since Jan 2022. She is heading our meetings and leads all our activities. She also plays a central role in the planning of our yearly symposium.
🖋️ 📆 🗺️
Milena got her PhD in Physics at LEM Karlsruhe (@KIT_Karlsruhe) in early 2022, focusing on STEM-in-SEM. She is now a Postdoc at EMAT in Antwerpen (https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/research-groups/emat/about-us/). yDGE allows her to interact with like-minded people and expand her leadership skills. Away from work, she enjoys cycling and gardening.
