I cannot keep this to myself. There is a website (radio.garden) where you can listen to radio stations all over the world for free. No log in. No email address. Nothing.
When the site loads, you are looking at the globe. Slide the little white circle over the green dots (each green dot is a radio station) until you find one you like.
I have been listening to this station in the Netherlands and it absolutely slaps. I have no idea what they're saying but the music is fantastic.
@crosscutanne @ywlebo correct, which is why $/CADR under required noise levels is so important eg US under 45dBA https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17j6FZwvqHRFkGoH5996u5JdR7tk4_7fNuTxAK7kc4Fk/edit#gid=1662890714&fvid=1567673968

I love our #corsirosenthalbox (all 4 of them) but Filtrete MERV 12-13 prices increased so much that it doesn't seem like a cost-effective option anymore. It was cheaper for us to buy new HEPA air purifiers (recs via guide from @cleanairstars) than to buy replacement filters for the CR boxes--even with differences in clean air delivery rate (CADR) and HEPA filter cost considerations included.
COVID causes long-term smell loss in some patients and we don't know why. We've got some initial answers in this great collaboration between Brad Goldstein's lab (where the work was led by John Findlay) and by our lab (with the amazing David Brann and Tatsuya Tsukahara)

Even mild COVID infection increases risk of blood clots and death
A study in the UK found that mild (non-hospitalized) infections led to a 2.7x higher risk of blood clots and 10.2x higher risk of death compared to controls ( https://heart.bmj.com/node/174901.full ). H/T: @lauramiers@Twitter.com 🧵 1/
Letting a virus run rampant repeatedly around the globe has negative economic effects. Surprise, surprise.

How fast ppl went from "China must end ZeroCovid" to "oh, nos, supply chain!" is whiplash-inducing.

Restarting the free rapid test program is not enough. The White House needs to launch a program to send FREE N95 masks to everyone through the mail. Why not include masks with the tests they send?

The right question is no more
❌"Are you boostered?"
but
✅"*WHEN* did you receive the last vaccine dose?"
👉After 3rd or 4th vaccine dose, incremental VE against hospitalisation with BA.4, BA.5 and BA.2
⚠️after 4-6 months is only 20-40%
⚠️after 6 month is only 10-20% ‼️

Germicidal UV: a tradeoff between disinfection and indoor smog
A Substack (blog) post with a first estimate of the magnitude of the tradeoff.
TLDR: still uncertain, but GUV smog is likely to be a significant concern, needs to be carefully evaluated.

After dumping #Helsinki’s car-centric 1968 plan, the #Finns embarked on a decades-long campaign to slow motor vehicles. “In the 1970s it was normally 50km/h in cities; then in 2000 it went down to 40km/h. Now more than half our urban streets have a 30km/h limit.”

Reminder that the claim of two years without RSV and now three years' worth of cases all at once just isn't true. Last year was a record year, but hospitals were not overwhelmed as they are this year.

Really awoken to the possibility of teaching/learning more about the actual history Thanksgiving based on posts I saw today. I will try using this guide with my son tomorrow.
Which I found through this article:

I know at least some of the massacres, land theft and genocide that we as Americans have committed against Native Americans but oddly I never really saw how badly I was taught/learned about Thanksgiving as a child. Hopefully I will build a stronger foundation for my children in understanding and reconciling with the past.

Wow, not only have the MTA taken down the problematic "You Do You" anti-mask signs, they have now reinstated signs encouraging New Yorkers to mask up!
Thank you to high risk and disabled New Yorkers and groups like Mandate Masks NY and Brooklyn BCID for testifying at MTA meetings.

And our pediatric capacity has been eroding over time, in part because of the simple (and ugly) fact that kids are less profitable than adults for hospitals.
A tripledemic hurricane is making landfall. We need masks, not just tent hospitals
With Covid, RSV, and influenza hospitals are on the brink. We need masks and other measures to reduce spread.
