Woke up to the horrible news that Taliban has suspended university education for women in Afghanistan. This is a heinous crime against women and is utterly un-Islamic.

Replugging my my twitter thread from 2021 about what Islam says about women’s education. #taliban #womeninAfghanistan

At the beginning of their regime in 2021, Taliban claimed they will guarantee women’s rights “under the limits of Islam.” But as a matter of fact they have made life a living hell for women in Afghanistan. The most recent atrocity is banning them from attaining university education.

@AyeshaNoor
So where did their idea or interpretation of Islam come from ?
@JewishConversations @AyeshaNoor
So why is it that moderte followers of religion never seem to really speak out vocally against the extream forms of their religion?
This seems to be happening across different religions, not just Islam.
@JewishConversations @AyeshaNoor
You have a good point here.

WHAT DO WE WANT?
MODERATION!
WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
IN A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME.
An old joke (from before I was born) yet true nonetheless. Much of the time it is political and religious radicals who galvanize the masses; they tap into human psychology in a way that humble, moderate people usually don't.
Human psychology seems to mistake narcissistic traits as wisdom and leadership.
@zleap @AyeshaNoor
Moderates are the best people in the world. Yet ironically also the problem, because they do not speak loudly enough, often enough, or take over social movements. This has been the Achilles heel of all human civilization since the beginning. Moderates often get wiped out in political party primaries, they don't fill the newsfeeds of social media, and they don't create many new mosques, synagogues, or churches.
