And here's what's causing my anxiety about joining a #PeerTube instance for my music stuff. I sift through and find an instance that fits my needs, head to the "About" page and see this:

HOW LONG WE PLAN TO MAINTAIN THIS INSTANCE
"Currently plan to run this instance for the next year or so at least, depending on usage and financials."

I would assist with those financials, but it still doesn't fill me with any confidence that it's going to stick around...

@killyourfm What we really need to happen for #peertube is affordable hosted options, so they can be easier to set up and maintained by a community, much like #mastodon instances are becoming right now.

Or, if you prefer, treat a peertube instance like a personal space/website where users host their own content and simply federate with trusted instances to create hubs.

My 2 cents

@zleap Agreed as well. A valuable 2 cents, @lps.

And if I could do a one-click install on Digital Ocean or Linode, they'd have my money right now.

@killyourfm @zleap This is on the right track, but still involves a few clicks;)

marketplace.digitalocean.com/a

and cloudron.io then gives you the ability to one-click install #peertube

cloudron.io/pricing.html

cloudron.io/store/org.joinpeer

I can't vouch for the process, but it seems possible

If you ever do it, I would recommend NOT federating, which only means that you don't get a stream of undesirable content on your instance, but people can subscribe to you, and you can follow other creators:)

@lps @zleap You're a hero. Thanks for this suggestion. I think I'll give this process a try!

@killyourfm @zleap best of luck, I'd love to hear how/if it works...I'm sure the rest of the #fediverse would as well:)

@lps @zleap This was SURPRISINGLY easy!

I'll have a longer report once I get it all configured.

@killyourfm @lps

Perhaps what is needed is a pre made Raspberry Pi and or other image with dependencies set up, boot up, answer a few questions and ready to go.

This is beyond my technical ability but it would mean documentation could be written to support that set up too.

@zleap @killyourfm For anyone that is interested #yunohost is essentially that.

yunohost.org/#/

A headless Debian ISO that can be installed on an old PC, Raspberry Pi, or VPS which even dummies like me could figure out;) They even provide you with a free subdomain!

Once installed, if you're hosting at home, you just need to open a few ports, and you're good to go:)

It acts as a base platform for a whole host of one click apps, but the library is truly staggering in its size.

@lps @killyourfm @zleap and just because @lps didn't clearly mention it, they have peertube in their list of applications.
yunohost.org/de/app_peertube

And here for RaspberryPi:
yunohost.org/en/install/hardwa…

Also make sure to install Peertube on its own subdomain or domain, one that you own.
