While I agree we should fly the flag, I think I draw the line at painting mini roundabouts, as that is part of road markings and they are there partly for safety reasons, any distraction risks an accident.
In some ways hanging a flag from road bridge could cause an accident if not secured properly.
However some of this comes down to basic common sense which many seem to lack these days.
Perhaps we should follow other countries example the national flag first another flag under that.
You put this far better than I did, thanks.
@zleap I've had practice. ;) Often these messages have been refined over a week or two of Facebook agitprop.
@zleap Why is it always England's St George? When it's not even St George's day and England FC aren't playing?
What about the flags of the other nations in the Union? I think we need a campaign to match the St George flag with the other three and the Union. Especially outside official buildings. Five flags or none. Union jack, England, Scotland, Wales, N.Ireland.
@jbond i
Yeah, maybe we should be flying the Union Jack first, the St George cross underneath it.
wrt, England FC, England are hosts to the womens rugby world cup, so we should be allowed to show support, as other home nations are also playing then supporters should be able to do the same.
@zleap "whatever flags". Well as long as it's not the Palestine flag. Because that would be terrorism.
The Palestine flag has remained that since the 1920s.
@zleap @jbond our house actually has a flagpole, in the front garden but hidden from the road.
In the past we have flown a Pride flag and a Devon flag. Maybe we should fly a Ukraine or Palestine flag.
But until we have a government I could support it will never be a Union or England flag. I'd be too shamed.
Fair point, btw good to see another person from Devon on here :)
We need a Mastodon or Fediverse flag :)
@zleap
It's really pretty simple.
Put up whatever flags you want, wherever you want. As long as :-
- Not on street furniture
- Not on lamp posts
- Not on other people's property
- Not without specific permission, if needed
If you do those things, don't be surprised when the local highway authority take them down again.
This is often not a question of free speech, but safety. By breaking those rules they're just wasting other people's time and money.
