While I agree we should fly the flag, I think I draw the line at painting mini roundabouts, as that is part of road markings and they are there partly for safety reasons, any distraction risks an accident.

In some ways hanging a flag from road bridge could cause an accident if not secured properly.

However some of this comes down to basic common sense which many seem to lack these days.

Perhaps we should follow other countries example the national flag first another flag under that.

It's really pretty simple.
Put up whatever flags you want, wherever you want. As long as :-
- Not on street furniture
- Not on lamp posts
- Not on other people's property
- Not without specific permission, if needed

If you do those things, don't be surprised when the local highway authority take them down again.

This is often not a question of free speech, but safety. By breaking those rules they're just wasting other people's time and money.
