Unpaywalled #uspolitics article (link is long, in comments) about how this #Biden proposal aligns the interest of #labor and #immigrants , instead of allowing #exploitative businesses to pit them against each other by cultivating a disposable pool of black market humans to distort the #employment market and dispense with any need to provide #safe and #humane working conditions. The WaPo gift link ate the entire character count of Mastodon! Let’s try TinyURL:
@trinsec sounds nice! I had to *severely* edit my whine about Virginia from earlier today because I tried to add links that took too much space; wonder if it would’ve worked better on desktop? But this one prompting me to finally look into how to use Tinyurl was a good thing anyway.
@AmberWavesofFlame
Hehe. I do most of my social media-ing on the desktop since that's just more comfortable. But I've found the mobile web interface to be a fairly good alternative. It's pinned to my home screen that way via my browser. I don't use the apps.
So yeah, if you want to be 100% certain that you can use all the features this server has to offer, I'd suggest to use the mobile web interface. Or maybe search for a better app that actually reads the character count limit correctly (but you might miss out on the other features that this server has to offer. You can read all about them in the About page at https://qoto.org/about/more if you're interested).
@AmberWavesofFlame But this server has 65k characters, you're supposed to have plenty. Maybe the app you use isn't reading that correctly.
I see you use Mastodon for iOS, maybe that's not reading this right. I tried Mastodon for Android, and it does seem to recognize the 65k characters correctly. I generally use the mobile web version.
When a link is long, Mastodon itself truncates it to like 30 characters for display, and it isn't supposed to add to the character count either besides what is displayed... sounds to me the app is a bit borky.
