Saw a pair of barn swallows outside my house just a little while ago. I don't usually see them I think, so it was nice. Sadly, my video of their activity was pretty short and not very good :(

looks like they hung around😄
(at least, I think it's the same pair. I'm not great at telling them apart within a species)

I think they're actually resting in the covered space before my front door. I'm surprised there's any comfort in that for them, but glad if there is.

yep, they are definitely nesting here. apparently a law protects them. I don't mind although I'm worried a call bit about parasites, so I'll probably remove the nest after they've raised their brood for the season

@2ck

If you're worried about bugs, you probaby want to keep them around. They eat tons of flying insects.

@Pat @2ck Don't think bugs is the problem. I'd be more worried about bird shit and suchlike.

Though I bet they can't be as bad as those doves I've had years ago... gods, doves suck! And shit! A lot!

@trinsec oh yeah, I did have some doves (or pigeons maybe). I had to remove a shelf the last owner or up because they had nested there a cpl years ago. I accept that poop will happen this time--I will be cleaning my door step every few days, esp once there are chicks in the nest @Pat

@Pat yeah, that's what I read. I want them around: they're fun to watch, and I'm glad they felt comfortable here, but I also read they can bring in ticks and lice in the materials used to build their nest, so that's something to keep an eye on
