I hope you're all having a fantastic day today. It's a beautiful day in Tel Aviv- clear skies with a lot of sun.

I've got a for you guys today:

What is a food that you have never tried but you would like to try?

No wrong answers, just a random question.

My answer? I'd like to try bird's nest soup.

@Surasanji Kobe beef. I wonder if it's as exceptional as peole claim.

@Surasanji One of those ramen bowls you often see in Japanese movies and animes, with the eggs and noodles in. They look amazing!

@Nyoei There is a place her in Tel Aviv that does those sort of Ramen bowls. I get the one with pork slices in it. It is *super* fantastic. Ramen in that form is one of my top soups.

@black_sun @Nyoei For me, the best food ever is and always will be my Mother's Tuna Casserole.

For me, that is the comfort food that destroys all other comfort foods.

@Nyoei @Surasanji OMG I ate so many of these when I lived in Tokyo. Ramen bars are cheap and literally everywhere over there.

There are so many styles and variations too. My favourites were tonkotsu ramen (豚骨ラーメン) and tantanmen (担々麺).

@Nyoei @Surasanji It's not actually too difficult to make at home, if cooking is your thing. You can order east asian food online, or find Chinese supermarkets in a lot of big cities. The only thing is that it takes a long time. To make it properly, you need to boil the broth for a few hours.

@InvaderXan @Surasanji My hands don't work properly, so cooking isn't my thing these days. I leave that to my husband. I just like the results:D

@Nyoei @Surasanji In that case, perhaps you could persuade him to try making ramen bowls sometime. I'm sure neither of you will regret it! 😬

@InvaderXan @Nyoei The place I get it here is called Oban Koban and is a Japanese 'Street Food' inspired restaurant. They do a 'Hokkaido Ramen' Here is a pic from their website: images.rest.co.il/Customers/80

@Surasanji @InvaderXan I feel like I am getting teased somehow with all these delicious food images. I don't eat red meat though so at least that one is very slightly less tempting than the one Infinite Sunbeams showed a picture of. I wanted to grab that through the screen!

@Nyoei @Surasanji @InvaderXan
Good day! The northern german points out Grühkohl. Yup, tastes like it sounds.

@Surasanji @InvaderXan I'm curious btw Dave, what turned you on to the idea of trying Birds Nest soup? 🤔

@Nyoei @InvaderXan

I never tried it before. I really enjoy food of all sorts, and in truth I'd probably be willing to try almost anything at least once.

Food is also very cultural. It's shaped by the world around the culture it exists within- and I feel like experiencing a culture through their food would be an excellent communal experience.

(Also I want to brag about how I ate a bowl of bird spit because I'm a silly man.)

@Surasanji @InvaderXan I like frogs legs. That's probably the most exotic food I have ever eaten. They remind me of the chicken I used to eat when I was young, before it was really mass produced. Very good flavour when done Cantonese style:)

@Nyoei @Surasanji I've never actually tried them. After I move to France, I should probably remedy that!

Most unusual thing I've eaten... I had a curry dish in Assam called posola which was made from fried banana tree trunk. That was very tasty!

@InvaderXan @Nyoei

I tried them a very long time ago as a child in some place we were traveling to. I barely remember the taste. I'll have to try them again.

@Surasanji @Nyoei Looks good! I love how there are regional varieties all over Japan. In Hokkaido I had Sapporo style ramen which included butter and snow crab. 🍜

@InvaderXan @Surasanji The thought of that is making me drool. I LOVE seafood!

@Surasanji
The Lampredotto, is bread stuffed with cow stomach. Is a delicacy from Florence, difficult to prepare.

@gio I'll have to add that to my list. Italy is a relatively easy trip for me these days.

@Surasanji If I'm honest, I'm always hearing of foods I've never tried but would like to. One of the best things about travelling and/or meeting people from other parts of the world is learning about interesting food you've never tasted IMO.

@Surasanji
I honestly don't know. I think I'd like to meet a random person, get into some diner or restaurant and just let the person order.
