People not from Jersey have this impression that it sucks, and people from Jersey love it.
I think it's bc the points of interest in the state are very diffuse. It doesn't have a stand-out center of cultural gravity for the mind to latch on to.
But what it does have is easy access to damn near everything people like.
@freemo What parts of the gun laws do you not support? I have no interest in owning a gun, so I don't know what our gun laws actually are.
Agreed on the property tax, for sure. To some extent, it's "pick your poison" in terms of tax types, but we're in the top 10 in terms of overall tax burden.
@acjay One example would be that its illegal to have an adjustable or collapsable stock on your rifles.
@acjay it is a structurally beautiful state! Like a magical glyph. One side up against the ocean, the other a sort of urban borderland, aligned with 95 and the commuter rail between Philly and New York (with Newark, Trenton, and Camden as touch-points). And then the soft center, with the pine barrens and Hammonton.
Love Jersey. 💜💜💜
@acjay Lets face it, Jersey isnt so bad to live or chill in terms of the people and things to do in the area. But my god the state laws are draconic sometimes. Property tax is out of control, and their gun laws are absolutely asanine and restrictive to name a few problems. If NJ had better governance it would be a killer state.
