🇩🇪 🇧🇪 🇦🇹 🇨🇭 🇱🇺 🇱🇮 **Language Question**

I am thinking about learning German. What do you think the best books to use in this endeavour would be?

@bibliolater You could start with an English/German edition of Mark Twain's "The Awful German Language" and then consider if you really want to learn it. 😉

@bewitchedmind I have a hobby of starting new projects without completing them. I thought I could add learning German to my extensive list of 'achievements'.

@bibliolater
One thing to keep in mind is that there is a big difference between written German ("Buchsprache") und spoken German - maybe more so than in other languages, because we have so many rules.
You can learn from a book, but it would be a good idea to try speaking to someone, too.
Don't worry about being wrong without noticing - we have a strong culture of telling you about it 😅

@schmidt_fu Thank you for the advice. I realise that the multiple grammar rules can be difficult for English speakers; however, I would like to concentrate in the beginning on the written word.
