I’m fairly new to Mastodon. Is there some secret to editing a post? I can’t seem to get it to work.

I posted using Ice Cubes, which doesn’t seem to support edit.

I then tried Ivory (after subscribing), but when posting the edit it gives an error “coudn’t find what you were looking for.”

Next, I tried directly on my instance in Safari. There is no edit button for the post there.

Delete works in all cases. And, “delete and edit” or “delete and redraft” seem to work.

Any suggestions?

@coperob On the official Mastodon iOS app, I tap the 3 dots and get an Edit option. It just works. Same goes for in Safari on my Mac on mastodon.world instance. 3 dots, edit.

@jasonmcfadden Thanks, Jason. When I tap that “edit” button, nothing happens. I’m guessing, based on what @ianRobinson suggested, that my instance doesn’t have this enabled.

I may have to look into what it takes to switch instances. I sort of just picked on at the beginning.

@coperob @ianRobinson Yeah, I didn't know a feature like that could be disabled on certain instances. I love being able to edit posts because typos love me.

@jasonmcfadden @coperob I don’t know if it can or not. It’s the only thing I can think about that might be the cause.

@ianRobinson @jasonmcfadden @coperob I think it’s just that qoto is running a fork of an older version of mastodon. The edit feature was added only recently in some 4.x version. Qoto is running 3.2.1 with additions of various levels of quality. Probably would be best to ask @freemo what the plans are for upgrading.

@ambihelical Thanks! I sent a message and will see what he says.
