I think I’m going to move to a new Mastodon instance that supports editing. I’ve had some other issues with the official app and my instance as well (replies don’t show up for one).
This should be automatic (so I’ve read). I hope I don’t mess anything up as I’ve just gotten started here.
Any suggestions on which instance? Other gotchas? I was thinking keeping it simple and going with mastodon.social, but not sure if others are better.
Fellow Mac nerds, I need your help. I’ve had a problem created on a Fusion Drive due to a failed Boot Camp installation, see https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/464086/how-to-recover-free-space-on-a-late-2013-imac-fusion-drive-after-failed-boot-c
I need help fixing the drive as outlined in my linked stack exchange post. #Catalina #MacOS10.15.7 #BootCamp
I’m fairly new to Mastodon. Is there some secret to editing a post? I can’t seem to get it to work.
I posted using Ice Cubes, which doesn’t seem to support edit.
I then tried Ivory (after subscribing), but when posting the edit it gives an error “coudn’t find what you were looking for.”
Next, I tried directly on my instance in Safari. There is no edit button for the post there.
Delete works in all cases. And, “delete and edit” or “delete and redraft” seem to work.
Any suggestions?

Good thoughts, Warner. No Goldilocks device, so use the one(s) that are most ideal. Tablet, laptop, or both.
The baseline is a smartphone (iPhone especially, hence the annual keynote reveal anticipation). I've used a laptop or tablet as my "main/only PC" over the years, but the smartphone persists. So even if Vision Pro is the new "future of computing," I doubt it'll supplant the smartphone.
I’ve just published “The iPad Works” - some thoughts on recent iPad news and how I view the iPad.
The iPad Mystery That Really Isn’t a Mystery
With new iPhones about to be released why is everyone talking about iPads?

This looks really cool. What a great way to utilize the strengths of the iPad.
It’s been a great year for powerful iPad apps! (Affinity apps v2, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Logic).
Hey, it looks like my @swiftconfto video is out! Here we go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tJ474kjGrc
Assuming this is technically possible, it’s a great idea.
I’m on an absolute stock app binge right now.
Calendar app is the prettiest calendar app on the App Store right now, minus its icon.
Notes is uber-powerful.
Mail has these subtly hidden powers with really simple, clean design.
Even the Weather app on the iPad has become a top notch weather app.
I’ve become easily the most boring app user on the planet.

I had a great chat with Michael and Matthew Daley about running their business in South Africa from the iPad Pro. We cover tons of topics and discuss in depth the impact of external monitor support and the improved Stage Manager has had on their work with iPadOS 17.
The iPad discussion is all about moving goal posts and hand wavy things. In other words, it’s about framing and context. But it’s also about fluff. Let’s start with the fluff. It’s kinda like cotton candy. Sweet and interesting at first but not a lot there when you really bite into it.
A few days ago Jason Snell, wrote his latest on how the iPad has been failing him. And, predictably, a host of prominent pundits chimed in. ... https://beardystarstuff.net/2023/08/31/the-ipad-discussion.html
On this day six years ago, I flew from Albuquerque, NW by way of Northern California (long story) to #Portland #Oregon in search of a possible new home for me and my family.
Despite some wildfire smoke and summer heat, to me it felt like paradise. We moved here not long thereafter, and the rest is history.
I truly feel like a different person by being here. You move to a new place hoping it will shape you in some new and encouraging way, and that certainly happened. Thank you Portland! 🤩
Left the rat race at Microsoft for traveling, writing, photography, a little coding, and whatever else seems interesting.
