@design_RG Do you still have that link to the patch that fixes the character count limit on mobile? Also any other code for patches you want to see added now is the time.
@freemo https://pleroma.site/api/v1/instance seems to be a configuration file for that instance, which mobile clients might use. But no help for us there, I think.
But there was an instance that has some modifications mentioned in help pages :
@freemo Page above is located at : https://wiki.nixnet.xyz/books/masto-tweaks/page/character-count
@design_RG I figured it out on my own thanks thought
@design_RG That PR looks like it will be nightmare to pull in.. ill try though...
@freemo If it is complicated then don't worry about it. Would be a nice addition, but don't want to cause a lot of work just to add a feature.
Thank you!
@design_RG Its difficult, but thankfully I'm fairly expiernced at this stuff. Good chance I can bring the branch up to date and get it to work.
@design_RG I cant really test anything fully locally since im not testing from a lice domain. But local-only toots appear to work now too...
@freemo That is neat! 😄
I was surprised by the level of discussion generated in that Git page, by people pro and against this feature. GlitchSocial already has it and I don't see any problems with it, it also seems to work well at Renato's instance, which is primarily in a foreign language and I see people using it.
@design_RG I cant think of a single valid argument against it. What I eally want to see is the more controversial federate-only-no-local :)
Could local users still see federate-only toots by going to the federated timeline? If so, it would be really nice to apply such a setting to the arxiv bots. That both keeps the local timeline tidy and makes it pretty easy to find the bots for anyone who wants to subscribe.
@khird
That would make sense, to avoid clogging local timelines. But there isn't a privacy setting for Toots that matches that yet -- Federated but not local.
Unlisted would not show on Federated, and would make them hard to discover, unless the person knew they were there. And the next levels are even not occult.
Unlisted doesnt federate but it also doesnt show on local. But its still public as anyone can see it if they have a direct link. I do think friends see it in their home timeline though.
Correct me if im wrong on this btw.
@freemo
That sounds perfectly correct, but an unlisted post will not be casually discoverable by people browsing the public timelines, so it would remain obscure unless someone knew about them, specifically.
For the Arxiv bots, unlisted wouldn't work for that reason, although it would clean up the local timeline.
@design_RG ill find it...
