Thank you very much! I appreciate it! 💚
Tom, you deserve for sure -- smaller instances take a lot of love and dedication, and can sometimes be so expressive, customized and crafted to serve the needs of their user base. I think yours is a good example.
I made a Blog post back in January which I really enjoyed, and think is a Good Read for users interested in learning and exploring.
Re-reading it, I still like, and think it's due to a volume 2 sometime soon (6 months and things evolve, I have found other interesting instances and reasons for considering them; from the software they use to the improved conditions they offer.)
That Blog is at :
Is it Important, which Instance you are in? : https://write.tedomum.net/rgx/is-it-important-which-instance-you-are-in
...and a follow up is on the clipboard plans stage. Thank you!

I only had a chance to skim but the article looks very interesting.
Growth is the hardest thing I've run into. Not that matters too much my site is setup to scale from 5 people and up. But as you mention the local time line lacks. Even with niche you need some growth.
Ah, thank you.
On attracting more users, you do have some goodies on offer. I would list them in an upcoming version 2 of my post linked previously.
Including :
* running on a more advanced platform, Glitch-Social.
* larger image supported, great for photo and art content producers.
* a smaller and likely less noisy experience. Growing with like minded people.
And a few others, which you might be able to think of; I would gladly include your instance if you were interested. What is your max too length, Tom? (important for me)
@emuz 500 is clearly less than I expect, as I already mentioned. 😛
But I am glad you are willing to change. 1500 I could live with -- I am loving a new instance I joined and is very progressive, GS, but only 800 and I suffer to post a Release for a new blog for example.
1500 would cover that well. I have a new home in Germany now too, where it's 5,000 and I don't think I would ever ask for more. I have got that long, on occasion, but not frequently, mostly for a full content post.
@emuz I can;t help you with the variables holding those strings - -but maybe ask Freemo who's worked deep into the souce code and modified it.
The post size limit will NOT break anything -- other instances will store and display long posts, it's just Eugen dictating that this 500 chars limit shall be obeyed.
He buried it in various places, so changing requires editing all of them, typical obstrucionist behavior. He opposed a pull request with Code included - denied and closed it.

What's being asked is if adjusting displayname size OR bio size has a detrimental effect on stock Mastos. Simple exercise.
No it doesnt. In fact they are explicitly designed to handle it by ensure exceptionally long toots get hidden behind a "read more" link to expand them.
Sounds good to me. Thank you for the input! :)
Happy to help.
Remember when you change the toot size even if it appears to be working, make sure it also works in android and iphone clients. there is an API setting which is easy to miss and even if you miss it will appear to work just fine from the web client.
I guess add:
* 1500 Toot Size
* 1500 Bio Size
* 60 Char Display name
You basically gave me a kick in the pants to do what I wanted to do anyway. I'll adjust the sizes further as my user's needs change!
@emuz Yes!!!!!
Wonderful and thank you -- you will get a mention in one of my upcoming blog posts. #FediReporter , sucess!
Love it, Tom, major thank you... Sincerely.
@emuz Follow up post -- at top level, for visibility.
Done from my new GS instance. https://muensterland.social/@rgx/104292642888514547
@design_RG Well I don't think you had to twist my arm that hard.. I was going to do from the start lol! However I think it's important others know that the fediverse is a more flexible place and you can shop around for something that fits.
Thanks again!
@emuz Yes, agreed -- it is really nice to find people who are receptive and listen, consider and then decide.
There are good people; and that lifts my spirit, specially after seeing good people being attacked by less tolerant and unfriendly ones [happened, just a day or two ago, the latest episode. I am stunned and hurt by the despicable behaviour of those people].
So cheers to a positive development and proof we can build things together. 🙂
@design_RG I want more but I also don't want to break anything. I'd like to tweak a few things, do you know of anything (specifically displayname and bio)?
